BREAKING-REACTION QUOTE: Ukrainian Group Reacts to EU Decision Today, Opening Door to Total Ban on Russian LNG Gas

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kyiv, Ukraine

Date: April 16, 2024

Today, the EU Parliament approved an option to pass rules allowing European governments to ban Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports by preventing Russian firms from booking gas infrastructure capacity. This comes as preparations begin for a crucial 14th EU sanctions.

Ukrainian organisation Razom We Stand, which has been campaigning since the beginning of the war for a complete embargo on Russian fossil fuel exports, welcomed the momentous decision.

Svitlana Romanko, Founder and Director of Razom We Stand, said:

“With the massive catastrophes caused to our Ukraine by horrific recent Russian bombardments, we welcome this gesture and thank the EU Parliament for their strong action. Now more than ever, Ukraine needs Europe to make a full ban on Russia’s energy exports, and this is a concrete move towards drying up Putin’s war chest. We are grateful and confident that the EU will no longer delay this crucial measure to help bring peace to our country more quickly.”
