2023 - the year of preparation for global change. How we were involved: our annual report
Full report
2023 was a challenging year for both Ukraine, which has been in a full-scale war with Russia for two years, and the global community, where tensions are growing over the division of markets, the rise of petrodictatorships and expected political changes.
Our work last year has gained a high profile in the US and Europe through advocating for energy security via a renewable revolution and closing the tap on fossil fuels is critical.
We have demonstrated the ability to leverage strategic communication, keep focus, promote climate action at all stages of the war, and organise hundreds of organisations within Ukraine and globally to take a bold stand against fossil fuel interests that underpin Russia’s aggression.
We remained a fierce watchdog on sanctions and created permanent pressure on governments of the G7 to tighten those sanctions and tackle the climate crisis. In 2023 we contributed to a coal and oil ban on Russian fossil fuels and current US sanctions on Russian LNG-2 project that made Novatek shareholders from France, China and Japan, to suspend their investments in Arctic LNG-2. Investigations initiated by us have revealed the critical role played by Western companies in the construction of Arctic LNG 2. Our moral leadership amplified by hundreds of organisations of the Stand With Ukraine campaign, has played a critical role in the promotion of rapid transition of the EU to renewable energy and reducing dependency on Russian fossil fuels in the past two years.
In Ukraine we are aiming for higher climate and energy goals in rebuilding Ukraine, with extended long-term relations in various sectors of society. We create and land narratives that result in policy change.
