Senior Campaigner

Razom We Stand, a Ukrainian-based non-profit organisation active internationally, was founded in April 2022 by Ukrainian climate and peace activists aimed at isolating and constricting Russia's fossil fuel industry to end the war in Ukraine and accelerate Europe's and Ukrainian transition towards renewable energy.

Location: Remote, in the US, with limited travel for team gatherings, etc. Candidates must have full working rights in the country they are applying to work from.

Remuneration: Depending on experience and capacity to take on responsibility, $75,000 - $90,000 yearly gross. The contract is for one year with the possibility of an extension.

FTE Status: Full-time

Start date: Ideally, as soon as possible

Reports to: Campaign Director

About You: The ideal candidate should be a campaign professional and a great communicator who strives for excellence and is strongly committed to ending war in Ukraine by ending the global fossil fuel addiction that feeds Putin’s war machine and to achieving peace and preventing climate chaos globally.

The Senior Campaigner will be responsible for the development and execution of Razom We Stand strategy to achieve tighter sanctions on Russian fossil fuels, especially in the US, G7 and G20 perspectives. The senior campaigner will collaborate closely with the other members of the team on furthering the team’s overall campaign objectives in the US and beyond. In addition to their own programmatic focus, the Senior Campaigner supports project development, collaboration with other campaigns and regional programs when relevant, and fundraising.

Due to the nature of this role, it will need to be based in the US.

The Senior Campaigner will work closely with the Campaigns Director and Senior Strategist.

Razom We Stand's mission is to aid the rapid transition from fossil fuels to clean energy for peace and justice, including rebuilding Ukraine. Our work also focuses on cutting off Russia's exports from fossil fuels and driving global momentum towards a clean energy future, surpassing the demand for fossil fuels.

We aim to eliminate fossil-fueled dictatorships, expedite political change, and catalyse investments in clean energy in Ukraine, the EU, and worldwide. We influence high-profile decision-makers to fast-track a climate-friendly and peaceful future for Ukraine and beyond its borders.

Strategy development and implementation

  • Lead the development and implementation of a strategy to secure tight sanctions on Russian fossil fuels and the US role in rebuilding Ukraine with clean energy;
  • As part of this, develop and lead a campaign to tighten an oil price cap and investments into Russian fossil fuel infrastructure, logistics and finance;
  • Monitor advocacy and communications opportunities as they develop;
  • Identify opportunities to connect international debates around fossil fuel phase-out and clean energy revolution to Razom We Stand campaigns.

Regional strategy development and implementation

  • Collaborate closely with the team and partners on trans-national campaigning opportunities across the region and in G7-G20 countries;
  • Help build an infrastructure for regional collaboration, exchanges and peer-learning between organisations campaigning against Russian oil and gas and clean energy for Ukraine;
  • Identify joint advocacy and campaigning opportunities at the regional level to support and amplify global campaigns.

Direct advocacy

  • Regularly engage in direct advocacy with key decision-makers in government and political parties, including supporting the development of interventions and responses to government and other stakeholders.

Coalition building and strengthening

  • Collaborate with relevant partners and coalitions in delivering coordinated strategies and interventions to shape the debate on the need for a full ban on Russian oil and gas and the clean energy revolution;
  • Identify and build relationships with other relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to civil society groups, academia, government and institution allies, agencies and funds, etc.

Research and communications

  • Working with our Research Lead, partners and investigative journalists to identify analytical gaps to inform the public debate on tightening the oil and gas sanctions in the US, G7 and G20 and work to fill these gaps either internally or externally;
  • Draft policymaker briefings and reports based on data analysis, desk research and interviews;
  • Working closely with the communications team, doing outreach work with journalists in the US and G7-G20 countries, helping our comms team with the context to draft compelling and accessible press releases, blogs, letters and other campaign materials.

Fundraising

  • Draft grant reports;
  • Draft fundraising and grant renewal requests;
  • Participate in maintaining relationships with funders.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience;
  • Commitment to the mission of Razom We Stand mission, passion for advocacy and campaigning, and a collaborative, team-oriented work style;
  • Strong knowledge of US and G7-G20 politics and experience designing and driving campaigns to achieve political and policy change in the US;
  • Background in climate change and energy policy or, public finance policy, and other related fields and an ability to digest complex information on energy and climate and translate it into accessible and compelling materials;
  • Strong communication ability, knowledge, and experience shaping compelling communications strategies and working with media;
  • Time and project management skills, with the ability to shift priorities depending on urgency;
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship and coalition-building skills and experience across a variety of geographies, lived experiences, and institutions;
  • Strong written and verbal communication;
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team.
